We arrive very late to report on this pious ceremony about which we have already told our readers. Let us at least say that all of Provence wanted to be associated with this commemoration of the greatest and most illustrious of its children. Maillane has never seen such an influx of visitors surge through its narrow streets. From all corners of Provence, from the confines of the Alpes-Maritimes to the gates of Donzère, caravans were formed to come to the birthplace of the man who gave our country a written language and living poetry again. From the first hour, the drummers, the Nacioun gardiano, then the different Félibrean schools arrived at Graveson station: the Targo de Toulon, the Escolo de Lar d'Aix-en-Provence, Prouvenço and the Escolo de la Mar de Marseille, the Mistral School of Arles, the Argenco of Beaucaire, the Escolo Avignonenco and the Flourège of the old papal city, the Ventour of Carpentras, the Aupiho of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, the Tourre of Chateaurenard, the Cieri d'Orange, the Pervenco, the Vieux-Marseille, represented by its president, our excellent friend Marius Dubois, etc., etc. Received by the members of the Maillane Félibrean society lou Roudelet, the different sister schools and the notables who accompanied them were, immediately after their arrival in Maillane, introduced into the master's house. There, in the large library lounge, Mrs. Frédéric Mistral welcomes them with her incomparable good grace. At 10 o'clock, under a gloomy sky, the procession formed to go to the church, and from there to the cemetery, where the capoulié Marius Jouveau gave a very beautiful speech. After him, Doctor Pansier, cabiscol of Avignounenco; Ms. Clapier, from Montpellier; Mr. Bessac, from Arles; MM. Ruat and Reboul, from Marseille; Mr. Abric, from Montpellier, and Mr. Guilloux, from Châteaurenard, demonstrate their attachment to Frédéric Mistral in moving terms. In the afternoon, during the felibrejado that we had announced, many felibres celebrated in all forms the glory of the Patriarch of Maillane, and expressed their gratitude and admiration for the father of the southern homeland. |
