Le Provençal de Paris 27 avril 1924

the Provencal boule

La Boule Provençale Playing field: Boulevard Masséna (13) Porte d’Italie

On a flowery and sunny Easter we played for four consecutive days for hours on end. There was no muscle in our body that didn't require a massage. After that, who is the layman who would not want to consider our game as one of the most sporting? And all this without brutality, without fear of accident, while laughing, while laughing.

It is confirmed that Mr. Gilles is not only a tenor whose voice delights our societies, but also a master player. Next to him, expert bowlers make applauded “diamonds”; they are MM. Moullet, Pin, Viano, Chaspou!... The President of the Company was placed out of competition by order of Mr. Cambe. MM. Roubin, Sottoriva, Ferrary, Castre, Chabraud, Chauvin, Truphème, Maigre Frères, Arbaud père, Arbaud fils (an excellent colt who takes notes, a racer would say), Crest... hold a first-rate place. Mr. Mossé has proven to be a serious player. Mr. Henri Augier (from Nice), for his debut, a fine player against whom he will have to be reckoned. Mr. Skinny Robert even impresses his father. Mr. Villon is coming to us for the first time and has shown himself to be a good player. Mr. Merli will also be a revelation. MM. Senès and his son will stand up to good players. Mr. Hutin has always been Mr. Audemar's favorite pointer at Saint-André-de-Méouilles (sic). Mr. Barles, long removed from Provençal meetings due to bereavement and overwork, gave us the pleasure of enjoying ours in the open air. We all know this good Provençal; the “Boule Provençale” had his support from its foundation and applauded his elevation to the rank of officer of the Legion of Honor. He’s a top-notch pointer; his son nobly follows in his footsteps. MM. Bouchier, Augier (vice-president of the Côte d'Azur) Chaspoul, form a serious team for the competition.

Ah! this competition! We talk about it constantly; we only talk about that. Who is the Provençal who would want to deprive themselves of the pleasure of reliving our country's favorite game in Paris, 800 kilometers from Provence? We don't know of any.

While waiting for May 29, the arms are made, the teams are formed and train. The ladies are faithful to the “Boule Provençale”; Mmes Maigre, Roubin, Sottoriva, Mossé, Audemar, Senès and Mlle, Castre, Chabrand, Gilles, Mlle Grison, Arbaud and Mlle Hutin and Mme Large, Brouchier, recreate in the fresh air around the game of croquet. Madame Chaspoul spoils the children, and there are many of them, with the sweets she brings them.

Our playground becomes the “Shed” dear to all Provençals. We play there on Saturday afternoon and from the first Sunday in May, on Sunday morning from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Let tennis fans all come that day around 4 p.m. so that they can be given their location on the court.

You can find so-called “Marseillaise” balls at the French Manufacture, 42, rue du Louvre in Paris. So each player can choose them. - J.-A.

Last hour. Our report from last Sunday set Villeneuve-les-Avignon in turmoil, “Not mai que aco!” Is it possible that the undisputed winner of this city at “pétanque” could have kissed Fanny? Let's be fair: Mr. Cambe's invalid opponent was the champion Mr. Pin. SO...
