The Place de l'Horloge, in Avignon, will change its appearance They write to us: Our Place de l'Horloge, today called Place Clemenceau, constitutes a sort of historical landscape, dear to all Avignon residents and to the many pilgrims to Avignon. However, the municipal administration has received on various occasions petitions motivated by the excessive encroachment of the median of Place Clémenceau on the crossroads of rue Saint-Agricol, des Marchands, Petit-Change and de la République," this which considerably hinders car traffic and constitutes a danger. Different solutions were considered. The administration focused on the project which consists of reducing the median of Place Clemenceau by 7 meters in width to the south by 1 m. 40 to the east, and which seems to give. satisfaction. On the other hand, we are going to repave Rue des Marchands, which is, as we know, our main shopping street. The evaluation of these various works reveals an expenditure of 23,000 francs for the planned modification of Place Clemenceau and 31,000 francs for the paving of Rue des Marchands. This expense was adopted by the Municipal Council and work will begin immediately. |
