The reestablishment of the hunt for the replay The new Minister of Agriculture addresses the following dispatch to the prefects of our region: “MM. Henri Aiguier, Raymond Gavoty, Humbert Ricolfi, J. Guichard and A. Fould, deputies, tabled, on April 2, an amendment to the bill modifying the law of May 3, 1884, on hunting, already adopted by the Senate and pending before the Chamber of Deputies. “This amendment specifies that the prefects. on the advice of the General Councils, will issue decrees to grant authorization to destroy thrushes and their congeners, from closing to March 15, at the post, in the woods and on the edge, by means of the rifle, when these birds cause damage to the harvests. “This amendment, which aims to ensure the protection of the olive harvest, seemed to me likely to be accepted; but its adoption would have the result of forcing the bill to return to the Senate and would consequently delay the vote on a law which contains, with regard to the repression of poaching, provisions which it is important to be able to put into force shortly. “For this reason, I obtained that this amendment was withdrawn by its authors, but I ask you, in the future, to take into account the provisions it laid down for the destruction, after the end of the hunt, of thrushes which cause damage in olive groves. This destruction must only be carried out at the post, you can, of course, authorize the use of means specific to this method of hunting (calls and decoys). Signed: J. Capus, Minister of Agriculture. |
