THE EIGHTY YEARS JUBILEE OF THE ILLUSTRIOUS WRITER ANATOLE FRANCE scholars and artists from around the world join in the tribute to French letters
Today, on the occasion of the birthday of the master Anatole France, French letters celebrate the eighty years of the great writer. All that the universe has of scholars, men of letters and artists was keen to join France's tribute to the author of so many imperishable masterpieces: Monsieur Bergeret in Paris, the Red Lily, the Island of the Penguins, the Rotisserie of Queen Pédauque, the Gods Are Thirsty, the Crime of Sylvestre Bonnard, etc.
Our first photograph shows the house at 19, quai Malaquais, where, on April 16, 1844, the man who is today unanimously recognized as the undisputed master of contemporary literature was born. On the left, we see the School of Fine Arts and, on the right, the two shops which replace the one run by François Thibault, father of Mr. Anatole France, under the sign “Librairie de France”. His admirers will come in large numbers to his hotel at the Villa Saïd.
