THE POLICE HEADQUARTERS AND MOTORISTS

Three thousand six hundred and seventeen fines were issued during the month of March 1924 to automobile drivers, and transmitted to the police court. It is curious to note the main reasons for these penalties.

It is the defect or insufficient lighting which causes the greatest number of fines, i.e.: 877.

Defect of numbers or irregular numbers, 361;

lack of identity plate or manufacturer, 218:

right not followed. 284;

smoke, 111;

speeding, 150.

But abandoning a car is also punishable and, curiously, 169 motorists were fined for this particular case which one might think is less common.
