Le Provençal de Paris 25 mai 1924

Provence in America

PROVENCE IN AMERICA

At the time of putting into pages, we receive from the poet Emile Ripert, professor at the Faculty of Letters of Aix-Marseille, the following letter, which was not written to be published, but which we are pleased to see, when even, to put before the eyes of our readers:

Aboard the Liner Paris, May 20, 1924.

My dear Director and Friend,
Here I am in the middle of the ocean, on my way to France!…

I finished my lecture cycle. Last Monday, in New York, while giving my seventieth lecture, I spoke, to the great joy of the public, about “Provençal Storytellers”.
In Canada, and particularly in Quebec, I was warmly welcomed and the name of Mistral, maintainer of a language, was acclaimed.
Tell it, please, to the Provencals of Paris, as I hope to tell you shortly in person, and believe me cordially yours

EMILE RIPERT.

P.-S. Also say that we have been playing Cyrano in New York for six months. The English translation was made by the American poet Brian Hooker. Cyrano is played by the great American actor Walter Hampden, and very well. He must dedicate the proceeds of the 200th performance, which takes place today, to our Rostand monument, in Marseille. I myself gave a conference in New York and in several cities on Edmond Rostand and Provence.

Let us add that Emile Ripert tells us that he will be with us next Tuesday, at the Gaité brasserie.
