THE EYES OF THE BLIND The naturalist François Huber, who became blind at a very young age, was nevertheless able, thanks to his wife, to have a remarkable scientific career. For forty years, she was not only the tender companion, the active collaborator, but the eyes of the one who no longer had any, to observe bees, their organization, their habits, etc., with such intelligence and accuracy that nothing important was left to be discovered, by this blind man, to sighted naturalists. "As long as she lived, I did not notice the misfortune of being blind", was able to say, after the death of this intelligent and devoted woman, the scientist, who, one in two people, wrote and described for the first time important facts of the life of bees, and also of the germination of different plants. |
