The friendly feasts that bring together members of the various groups and associations of our city around a well-served table during the beautiful days of summer are coming to an end with the season. But the patronal festivals that must follow the calendar continue. There were four this week. In L'Abadie, Tourrette-Levens, Sainte-Hélène and Saint-Roch, there was joyful banqueting and dancing. Speeches were given that emphasized the importance of these meetings for maintaining local traditions and social solidarity. In the pretty summer resort of Levens, after the banquet served under the shade of the Place de la Liberté, Mr. Barrière, deputy, congratulated the Committee on the beautiful festivals that he had just organized. A ball followed that brought together all the youth of the neighborhood. The next day, the Committee organized a beautiful athletics meeting, of which we give some photographs above. In Tourrette-Levens, a religious service was held. Our distinguished fellow citizen, Mr. Rouard, baritone of the Paris Opera, sang, during the high mass, several religious pieces, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Rouard. It was a delight. At Sainte-Hélène, Mr. Octave Gimello, municipal councilor, representing Mr. Pierre Gautier, mayor of Nice, honorary president of the Sainte-Hélène Committee, gave the customary speech which was warmly applauded. Finally, in the Saint-Roch district, no speech was given, but the ball and the bowling and singing competitions which took place after the banquet were a great success. |
