The Pont d'Arcole in Paris
It is believed that this bridge, which in Paris connects the quay of the Hôtel-de-Ville to the Cité, received this name in memory of the battle of the Pont d'Arcole (17 Nov.), this is not the reason. A young man, who, on 28 July 1830, was fighting in the ranks of the people in the attack on the Hôtel-de-Ville, rushed forward, a tricolour flag in his hand, crying: "My friends, if I die, remember that my name is d'Arcole." He was killed, and his name was given to the bridge on which he had fallen.
