AN ACADEMY OF INTERNATIONAL LAW PARIS, September 17. An academy of comparative international law, due to the initiative of several members of the Court of The Hague and of French jurists, was constituted at a meeting held on September 13, in Geneva. This assembly, which, according to its statutes, comprises 30 members, all professors of law, has as its principal object to work on the study of comparative law on a historical basis and on the improvement of legislation in the various countries, particularly in matters of private law, this by the approximation and conciliation of laws. This organization will also endeavor to standardize commercial law to elaborate general rules concerning the points on which the legislation of different countries would not allow the application of the new principles. The Academy elected as its president. Mr. André Weiss, professor at the Faculty of Law of Paris, member of the International Court of Justice of The Hague. |
