The abolition of the investiture for noble titles Mr. René Renoult, Keeper of the Seals, yesterday tabled a bill in the Chamber abolishing the investiture of noble titles in the Chancellery. In the explanatory statement, the Keeper of the Seals stated: There was no serious fiscal reason for maintaining in our laws an institution which, having become more or less theoretical, nevertheless retains under the Republic an official character as a title of nobility. There is no question of abolishing in everyday life the use of the title of nobility which can subsist there as an element of distinction of a particular nature. We are therefore not proposing to repeal all of the legislation on noble titles. |
