Le Patriote Lorrain 23 novembre 1924

Le Patriote lorrain 1924 11 23 Pontoy, epilogue of a small drama

PONTOY

Epilogue of a small drama. We remember that, on July 10th, a drama of jealousy stirred up the commune. The worker Charles Schmitt, aged 42, residing at 186, rue du Klopp, finding at home, in the company of his wife, his brother Ignace Schmitt, aged 20, to whom he had forbidden his door because of previous betrayals, jumped on the latter and stabbed him violently. Ignace Schmitt, hit in the back, had a punctured lung and had to remain in treatment for more than two months at the Algrange hospital, where at first there were fears for his life. On July 12th, the Metz prosecutor's office went to the scene to investigate this affair which was thought to result in the death of a man.

But since Ignace Schmitt is currently on the road to recovery, it was the Metz Criminal Court and not the Assize Court that was called to judge Charles Schmitt. The case was called on Wednesday, November 19. Given the mitigating circumstances invoked in favor of the accused, the latter was only sentenced to a suspended fine of 25 francs.
