LAWN-TENNIS

The French International Championships

Unfortunately, rain interrupted the matches on the fourth day of the major tournament at the Stade Français yesterday.LAuto vélo 1925 05 31 art 05 tennis the silent tournament
In the singles championship, the Lyon champion, Henri Cochet, won in four sets against Hindou Lal. This match was very interesting to watch. Cochet initially led three games to one in the first set, but the Hindou, attacking with force and determination, thanks to an excellent forehand, leveled the games, and after 4-4, narrowly won the first set 6-4. In the second, when the games were tied at 3-3, rain interrupted the match for twenty minutes. Cochet, upon resuming, played three games in a row. He showed bite and consistency. The Lyon player won the second set 6-3, won the third 6-4, and completely dominated the final set.
Another Indian player, Jacob, triumphed over the young Aron in four sets. The latter started very strongly and very quickly; but later on, he found in his opponent a consistent player, tenacious and adept at taking advantage of every opportunity to score points.
Among the other victorious players are Lacoste, who has only lost two games in two encounters; Jean Borotra, who won in four sets against A.-A. Fysee; and Mishu and Aslangul, who easily advanced through the second round. In this same championship, Gentien and A.-A. Fysee began a battle so long that only the rain forced the two players to stop their numerous exchanges. It will continue this morning at 11:00 a.m.

Among the women, England's Miss Mac-Kane played brilliantly against Miss Rosenbaum, winning her second round match 6-2, 6-1. Miss Mac-Kane appears poised to rank among the top women's singles players. She plays with great skill and strength from the baseline and knows how to come to the net to finish points with great precision. However, in Miss Rosenbaum, she found an opponent who played with energy at times. If this player had a more energetic forehand, she would certainly have achieved a better result. Her net game, on the other hand, was very effective.
