The jubilee of the Dactylos, Edison's 78th birthday
SHORT DOCUMENTARY CHRONICLES

and Rosserie Mondaine

The Jubilee of the Typists.
The fiftieth anniversary of the typewriter, or rather of the first "practical" machine, which was manufactured in America, has just been celebrated in Paris.
Because, in reality, the typewriter is much older: Hill built one in England in 1714.
Today, it is estimated that there are a hundred million machines in service in the world, of three hundred different brands.
And the time is long gone when sending a letter written by typewriter was considered impolite. Interestingly, the last enemies of the typewriter were people who were completely lacking in calligraphy. There must have been jealousy behind that!

Divorce ring.
A British jeweler has just launched a jewel that can be said to be indiscreet; it is the ring for divorcees of both sexes, which includes a split ring separated by a small dart.
The arrow, which is one of the attributes of love, is, in this case, also indicative. If the wedding ring, a ring of silver, gold, diamonds or platinum, indicates that "the way is not clear", the broken ring signals, on the contrary, an advanced semaphore post, that this hand is to be taken. And this silent language, already adopted by taxis, dispenses with further speeches.
And when the applicant does not seem to be able to be accepted, the divorced woman, while putting on her gloves, puts on the sheath, which indicates that she intends to return to the garage.

Edison's 78th birthday.
The very illustrious scientist, author of many discoveries, including the kinetoscope, an ingenious device that preceded the cinematograph, Thomas Edison, has just turned 78. In Fort Myers, where he lives, hundreds of telegrams have arrived, sent from all corners of the world. He received the journalists, and, among other things, told them:
- I only took, until now, four hours of sleep, my wife wanted me to add two. So, to please her, I sleep four hours for me and two for her.

Rosserie Mondaine
To Henri Cor.

In a magnificent salon
Where gold streams, where fine pearls
Stain the "satin" of the breasts,
The marquise purrs.
We drink tea, we "flirt", we chat:
It's the great world... intelligent;
But more than the "little people"
We prick, we bite, for nothing, without cause.
And two "ladies" seeing
A superb creature pass by
Detail her on the seams,
With bitterness, without tiring.
"She is quite... good, but there you go!"
(One breathes without any trouble)
"I don't know how old she is
But she looks twice as old".
