IN MESOPOTAMIA BANDITS ATTACK A CAR CONVOY AND WOUND A FRENCH VICE-CONSUL
BEIRUT, March 7. - A car convoy coming from Baghdad and heading for Damascus was attacked by Iraqi bandits about 200 kilometers from the Syrian border. Passengers, including the French vice-consul in Baghdad, were injured. Medical planes went to their rescue. Only one of the cars in the convoy was able to escape the bandits. This is the second time that an attack of this kind has occurred in the same region, while no incident has ever occurred in the territory placed under the surveillance of the Franco-Syrian authorities. These facts underline the state of insecurity in the Iraqi regions, where it seems impossible to maintain order. (The murder of the French president of the Court of Appeal for foreign residents in his residence in Aleppo was also announced.)
