Bellevilloise justice, another case of insults

GOOD NOTE:
Justice Bellevilloise…

In the amusing collection of “Joyeusetés et Facéties” that they have just published under the title “Le Wagon des Fumeurs”, Curnansky and Bienstock have inserted this judgment rendered by the justice of the peace of a district of Belleville in a case of insults:
“Whereas the woman F..., complains of having been called “pedzouille” “sidewalk game”, “subscriber of Saint-Lazare” and other epithets;
“Whereas the opposing party and its witnesses have demonstrated that it was for fun and not to hurt that such remarks were made;
“Whereas it should be noted that we are in Belleville, where social relations are less strict than in the 8th and 16th arrondissements of Paris;
"Whereas in Belleville violent terms are often used, the scope of which is unknown, and this is done to make people around you laugh;
"Whereas most politicians are daily bombarded with insults, to which they pay no attention;
"Whereas the woman F... must do the same;
"For these reasons:
"We simply dismiss her claim and order her to pay the costs".
This, is it not true, a decision full of good sense and wisdom and this Belleville magistrate deserves all our congratulations.
Insults, like words of love, only have the importance that one wants to give them. And "it is appropriate to observe" the place where they were uttered.

Mr. Painlevé would do well to take inspiration from this judgment and when our deputies, after having gotten carried away, come to blows, why would our Prime Minister not shout from the top of the presidential rostrum: - Come on gentlemen, calm down! You call yourselves "assassins", "sellouts", "traitors"? What a great deal! Is it not appropriate to note that we are in the Chamber of Deputies?

Gilbert DUPÉ.
