Let's talk about colonies
Perhaps they are not taken care of enough in France. A serious accident must occur there, an administrative error must be committed, for them to be given some attention. However, given the profit that could be made from them, the development that the future has in store for them, it seems that there would be no harm in showing a little more interest in these countries that progress is bringing closer to us every day and whose output is more considerable from year to year.
Here are, for example, some figures relating to the Middle Congo: During the third quarter of 1924, the commercial movement reached 9,671,321 francs, of which 4,209,049 were for exports and 5,462,272 for imports. Compared with the corresponding period of 1923, we note, with regard to 1924, an increase of 4,537,170 francs, francs, of which 1,852,827 francs were exports and 2,684,343 francs were imports. This difference, as we see, is very significant and bodes well for the activity and destiny of the colony. If it still buys more than it sells, it is the result of a temporary situation which tends to change. When the automobile and air missions which have taken on the task of establishing easier, less costly communications in these vast and distant regions, have carried out this plan, the goods produced or manufactured by the Middle Congo will circulate more rapidly, at lower prices, and the quantity offered will be much higher than it is at present. There is no doubt that a day will come when, thanks to its colonies, France will no longer be, from any point of view, dependent on anyone.
