The Unemployed in England, but also in New York

The Unemployed in England

The number of unemployed people is increasing in England.
However, those in New York, because they have some there too, have just thought up a new mode of protest. Numbering several hundred, they invaded one of the most fashionable churches in the city and spent the night there under the benevolent guard of the verger. They tried to repeat their attempt the next day in another church, but the priest coldly announced that he would beat the intruders' heads. The procession of strikers did not insist.

The theater managers immediately offered the unemployed their theaters to spend the night. And one cannot help but think how different these customs are from ours.

It is true that France does not have any unemployed people. It sometimes has strikers, but they always know where to spend the night.
