The 149th anniversary of American independence was celebrated yesterday with great fanfare in Paris.
At the Volunteer Monument. - At Lafayette's grave. - At the United States Embassy. - On the stone of the unknown soldier at the Arc de Triomphe.
It is "Independence Day," commemorating the great day of July 4, 1776, that Americans celebrated yesterday. Our photographs show Mr. Myron T. Herrick, United States Ambassador, speaking in front of the monument erected to the American volunteers in the Place des Etats-Unis, then saluting the Stars and Stripes at Lafayette's grave in the Picpus Cemetery, and finally receiving members of the American colony at the embassy on Avenue d'Iéna. In the last photo, we see an American officer rekindling the flame of the unknown soldier. (Read the article on page 3.)
