Saint Medard

Saint Médard must bring us new rains

We are unlucky this year with the Saints. Saint Mamert, while we were tasting the first joys of a spring, probably early, brought back the cold in a gust of wind. Naturally, the rain was part of it. And, while we were already dreaming of other things, it was the umbrellas that bloomed again in the streets. Saint Médard, whom we celebrate today, will confirm the effects of his predecessor and prove that unanimity reigns among the blessed. “Indeed, we were told at the central meteorological office, it will rain again. The bad weather is not over. Yet if it can bring you any slight consolation, the temperature will rise again. From tomorrow, we will be warmer”.
So, if Saint Medard, inflexible, condemns us to take our umbrellas again, he will allow us, as a gracious measure, to take off our overcoats. But to what do we owe these incessant showers?

“To the cold currents of the north, sir. They come from Iceland. And that's what brought us this all-too-uniformly gray weather.
"And will it last?"
“We can't say. It will rain for a few more days. That's all we can say.
"And this weather is natural at this time of year?"
“Everything happens in meteorology. However, if it is not against any rule, such weather is quite rare. It usually only occurs every twenty years.

Perhaps we will be allowed to find some comfort in thinking that we are living through an exceptional year. On the other hand, disappointed by Saint Medard, we are still allowed to hope in Saint Barnabas whose spirit of. contradiction is well known.
