The Municipal Council extends the concession of the Electricity Company

Municipal councilors do not like to be criticized and do not take well to being suspected. They should often only blame themselves if any mishaps happen to them.

They voted yesterday, in the midst of the most perfect inattention of the majority, whose seat we felt was made in advance, the agreement with the Parisian Electricity Company, which links the City with this company until 1950 and authorizes it to issue an initial loan of 200 million to carry out work. The private conversations, throughout the discussion, covered the explanations or criticisms made from the platform and, on such an important question, the vote took place by a show of hands; In order for a vote to be held afterwards, Mr. Emile Desvaux had to go up to the podium protesting against the lightness with which such a serious decision was taken.

Saturday evening, the councilors affirmed that "the discussion of the amendment would not take place on Monday", the report of Mr. Marcel, Héraud not being distributed; this was, obviously, the simplest way to ensure that he would not be criticized.

Yesterday, the continuation of the discussion on savings was adjourned to the next session and both the rapporteur and the administration developed and accepted their conclusions on the proposed amendment.

Before two months the price of electricity; will be increased. The advisors will blame the drop in the franc, but Parisians will be entitled to believe that the advisors are not entirely foreign to this new charge.
