Candide 02 novembre 1924

We are celebrating the eightieth birthday of Branly, one of the most learned in the world, one of the most modest, but also one of the most taciturn.
At the time of the discovery of the T.S. F., Branly was bothered by many little science enthusiasts whom he regularly sent away. But one of them managed to force the door of one of his laboratories, at the Catholic Institute where the scientist had practically cloistered himself.
The bore, upon entering, saw a little man filing something on an anvil.
— I would like to see Mr. Branly!
— Sit down.
The visitor sat down, and the little man continued filing.
— Don't you understand? I wish, I want to see Mr. Branly.
—Sit down.
The scene was repeated until evening, until the little man had taken off his apron, folded it carefully and placed it on his anvil. After which he put on his boots and hat, took his umbrella and went out.
That, the bore asked the janitor,
— that worker has made fun of me!

— What worker?
— The one who goes over there. I asked him to see M. Branly, he made me sit down, and I didn't see anyone.
— Excuse me, replied the janitor. That worker is M. Branly himself and you saw him working all afternoon...
