THE DISAPPEARANCE OF MR. QUEMENEUR
WHO, ON JUNE 20, abandoned the general councilor's suitcase in Le Havre?

Morlaix, July 11. — We said the other day that the number of the typewriter discovered at Seznec's did not correspond to that of the machine purchased on June 13 in Le Havre from Mr. Chenouard. This is not without disconcerting the police somewhat. Likewise, she thought that Seznec had returned to Le Havre on June 20 to leave the famous suitcase. However, it seems that he did not leave Brittany at that time. He was indeed seen at his businessman's house. Mr. Vidal and inspectors Royère and Bonny carry out careful checks on this subject. But if it is proven that Seznec was unable to go to Le Havre on the 20th, who could have come there to lose the suitcase? Does the wood merchant have an accomplice? On the other hand, it seems less certain today that Seznec was the author of the reassuring dispatch addressed to Miss Quemeneur.
Thus education seems to have taken, these days, rather a step backwards. In these conditions would it not be useful for Seznec to be confronted as quickly as possible with the people of Le Havre who, according to the photographs presented to them, recognized him in the individual they met on June 13. It is in fact on this that the majority of the accusation rests. It would be good, we will understand, if there were no longer any doubts on this subject.
In the meantime, new searches took place at Seznec and Landerneau. So far they have not given any appreciable results.

Research in Houdan
Houdan, July 11. — Searches continued all day today in the Houdan region. In vain. Excavations were particularly carried out in a property located in Millemont, with the authorization of the owner. We remember that the name of the village of Millemont was often mentioned in the reconstruction of the last stage of Seznec's journey with Mr. Quemeneur. The property in question, enclosed by a simple fence and whose surroundings are wooded, is easy to enter. We also noticed freshly dug holes there.
Were they killed by animals? But Mr. Quemeneur's assassin could have benefited from this ready-made work. Surveys have been carried out which will continue tomorrow with the help of police dogs. Note that the Security inspectors were attracted to this property by the cadaverous smell given off by poisonous mushrooms.
