TENNIS! Lenglen “for ever”!
For the fifth time in a row, Suzanne Lenglen won the Wimbledon Tournament, which is a real World Championship. There was great hope in England that Miss Lenglen would lose her title, and that the invincible would finally be seen defeated. Especially since, the day before, our champion had been beaten in the mixed doubles by an English pair. We found, among our neighbors, that Suzanne had lasted long enough, the versatility of the sporting craze! We do not want idols to rot in their glory. It is therefore on the fragile shoulders of Miss Mac Kane that the English placed all their wishes. Twice 6-2, our great champion overthrew these hopes with the back of her racket. But if Suzanne Lenglen is the first player in the world, it must be said that Miss Mac Kane comes immediately after her. Let's thank our brilliant representative for saving our honor at Wimbledon. The turnaround in its favor has been very clear among our neighbors across the Channel, and all the English newspapers are devoting long columns this morning to singing its praises. In doubles, she was also victorious with Miss Ryan over Miss Lambert Chambers-Miss Mac Kane: 6-1, 6-2. The men's doubles final will pit the players of Gomar-Flaquer against the English Lycett-Godfree. The first named must win and grow in our esteem, because they are Spaniards.
