Napoleon at Saint-Cyr in 1925

Among the traditions devoutly passed down from generation to generation by the students of the Saint-Cyr Military Academy is the annual Festival of Triumph. At the end of each year of study, the graduating class of young men who will be commissioned as second lieutenants and sent to the troops is solemnly baptized during a ceremony that is both joyful and solemn.
It was one of these ceremonies that had just taken place in the presence of the students' parents and their friends. As is customary, there were carousels, parades, reenactments of historical scenes, and among them, a grand review of the "grognards" of the guard, who had been Napoleon's guest. Each role, of course, including the women's roles, is played by a Saint-Cyr graduate, and all the costumes are faithful copies of the costumes of the period in question.
Then, at the end of the festival, the serious hour of baptism sounded. In the presence of all the assembled Saint-Cyrians, the student who obtained the number 1 of the outgoing class solemnly gave a name to this entire class. This year, in memory of the fighting taking place in Morocco, it will be called the Rif class.
