Le Petit Écho de la mode - June 28, 1925

Over the DaysLe Petit écho de la mode 1925 06 28 The revealing iris and Léon Vannier iridology

The Revealing Iris.

- A French scientist, Mr. Vannier, asserts that the eye "bears the signature of all our physical miseries." And here's how. I'm not the one who vouch for this. It was he himself who wrote, some time ago, in the journal Savoir:
"The right iris is the mirror of the right half of the body, just as the left iris is that of the left half. Their peripheral zone corresponds to the skin and the circulatory system; the central zone, to the digestive system; the middle zone, to the other organs. From the middle of the eye, imagine six rays delimiting six equal iris segments: three on the outside, facing the ear; three on the inside, toward the nose. Each segment corresponds to different parts of the body: the upper segments, the brain; the lower segments, the legs; to the lower half of the middle external segment, the rib cage, etc.; it's a whole topography to learn.
"There, all diseases are marked: by white lines signifying inflammation; by white clouds indicating that this inflammation is acute; by shadows indicating discharge and catarrh; by black spots, signs of partial or total destruction."
If this is indeed the case, Mr. Vannier is right: the very difficult study of diagnosis will be significantly simplified. But is this really the case? The medical profession has its say!
