Traffic REMARKS FOR DRIVERS
We reported at the time the fatal accident caused in Versailles by a reckless driver named Allègre. At breakneck speed, this madman killed a cyclist, threatened the outraged crowd with his revolver, and fled the scene. The Île-de-France Regional Court, which had filed a civil suit on behalf of the drivers, the widow, and an orphan, won its case before the Versailles Criminal Court, which, regretting that it could only impose the maximum sentence on the reckless driver, sentenced him to 3 years and 2 months in prison, a 205 franc fine, 75,000 francs in damages, and awarded 1 franc to the Île-de-France Regional Court, the civil party. This is a very fair judgment, which some reckless drivers would do well to ponder!
