Will Olympique Marseille play in the Coupe de France?
Marseille, June 27. This is the current debate. Here's the reason. Following the decision taken at the general meeting of the Southeastern League to hold the Division d'Honneur championship in home and away groups of eight clubs, Olympile de Marseille expressed its intention to withdraw from this competition and considered the possibility of playing only the first division championship of the Provence district, in order to be able to participate in the Coupe de France. This resulted in a rather delicate situation; therefore, taking advantage of the visit to Marseille of Mr. Delaunay, secretary of the 3rd FA, and Mr. Courcier, president of the Cup Commission, a meeting was organized, attended by Messrs. Manzimi and Caroin, for Olympique; Valerian and Canals, for the Provence District, and Abelly, for the Southeastern League. The rules are clear: A club cannot be relegated to a lower division at will; therefore, Olympique will remain in the Southeastern League's honor division. Given this situation, our great club is considering not participating in the Coupe de France for one year, and the Board of Directors will make a final decision on Tuesday. Following a personal investigation, it seems highly likely that the 1924 Champions will not participate in the major national competition this season.
