New York, March 7 (Petit Paris dept.) American juries are not always to be pitied. Witness the one in Shelbyville, Kentucky, which had to decide in a case of damages. The plaintiff, a fifty-year-old, claimed compensation of 180,000 francs from her former suitor for not having fulfilled his matrimonial promises. In support of her claim, she gave the piquant detail that, during the long period of the engagement, she had not let herself be taken in less than 400,000 kisses. The jury, which must have included some calculators, estimated the price of each kiss at 22 1/2 centimes and unanimously returned a verdict awarding the plaintiff 90,000 francs in damages.
